The oldest child of Ira Ayers and Helen Derrie, I was born in LaFollette, Tennessee, but I have lived almost my entire life in Howard County, Maryland.

As a happily married and retired man with two great sons (David and Brian), a beautiful daughter (Stacey) and three terrific grandchildren (Zachary, Zoe and Ava), I have very much for which to be grateful. Unfortunately, Brian passed away in 2013, but I am grateful to have had him for his time on earth. I have been blessed also with reasonably good health and a successful career as an engineering manager. I now live comfortably on the fruits of my 45 years in the work force, and am always looking for opportunities to give back to my family and to the community.

I have many personal interests including keeping up-to-date on electronic technology, financial planning, and sports, including watching local basketball and football teams. For physical activities, I enjoy hiking/walking and playing golf with my friends twice a week when the weather is good. My lovely wife, Sheryl, and I greatly enjoy traveling several times a year on both restful and/or active vacations.

Of significance to this website/blog, over the last 25 years, I have nurtured a passion for genealogy or family history as I prefer to call it. I have done extensive research on both my Father and Mother’s sides of my family. As a result, I have a well filled-out ancestor tree and in the process I have uncovered many good related stories to share.
